Hibiscus Secondary Students

Lower Secondary (Year 7- 9)

Hibiscus International School administers the “Cambridge Checkpoint” tests, which are designed for the end of Cambridge Lower Secondary. In addition, students engage in a wide range of extracurricular activities and subjects such as Physical Education (PE), Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Music, Arts, Geography, History, Biology, and educational trips that complement their learning. The “Cambridge Checkpoint” tests are marked by Cambridge in England, providing Hibiscus International School with an external international benchmark for student performance.

Secondary School Students

The Cambridge Checkpoint provides valuable feedback on a student’s strengths and weaknesses across key curriculum areas. This feedback serves as an invaluable resource, allowing Hibiscus International School to make informed, strategic decisions based on a wealth of data and specialized reporting tools embedded within the Cambridge Checkpoint. Students receive a Statement of Achievement, which offers insights into their academic progress at this stage of their education.

The Cambridge Checkpoint tests are available in English, Mathematics, and Science, covering all key areas of learning essential in the early years of international secondary education.

Cambridge Checkpoint feedback documents: The diagnostic reports generated by Cambridge Checkpoint enable Hibiscus International School to:

  • Tailor individual learning programmes to meet the needs of each student
  • Monitor both group and individual performance
  • Provide valuable information for parent reporting
  • Compare the performance of all learners who take the tests in the same session
  • Predict future performance in learners’ formal examinations

The report on a student provides:

  • The Cambridge Checkpoint score for the entire subject
  • The Cambridge Checkpoint score for each main topic or skill
  • A detailed list of questions (along with the sub-topics/skills) where the student’s performance was particularly strong or weak
  • An attractively presented Statement of Achievement

Cambridge Progression:

Cambridge offers routes learners can follow from the post-kindergarten stage through to university entrance. Our provision also includes first-class support for our students and teachers.

English As an Additional Language (EAL): We are welcoming students from 25 different countries for most of whom English is an additional language. Providing supplementary educational support to such students is critical for them to succeed academically. Hibiscus International School is committed to offering support to students who need additional English Language classes to bring their level up to par with the proficiency and fluency required to carry out their studies. In order to do so, we have expert teachers who teach supplementary English classes alongside other everyday subjects.

The EAL teachers work in close collaboration with mainstream subject-specific teachers to ensure that these new students are not disadvantaged in acquiring their lessons at the level and speed required. EAL students receive support in English language proficiency for a duration and intensity according to their specific needs until they have acquired it to a level adequate enough for them to smoothly continue their studies.

Schedules for EAL lessons for Years 7 onwards will be incorporated into the school timetable. As a condition of promotion, EAL students are required to pass the examination benchmark set by respective teachers. Upon completion of EAL, a Certificate will be issued to the student. EAL classes take place throughout the entire term.
